The paper presents a detailed description of the Orion 2 space observatory, its systems, instruments, and operational modes. Operational principles of the observatory in orbit are outlined, and the scientific devices are discussed, including the Meniscus telescope, slitless diffraction spectrographs, and X-ray chambers. The design of the observatory is described along with its construction, stellar sensors, solar transducer, and sighting system. Functional schemes are presented for the astronavigation system, six-wheel stabilization, and electrical system. The procedure for conducting experiments is outlined, photographic materials used during the mission are described, and ground tests are summarized. Some results obtained by the observatory are discussed, especially UV spectrograms of hot and cold stars.
