It is inferred on the basis of rocket data and theoretical calculations that the existing model for positive ions in the D-region, after suitable correction of model parameters within the limits of experimental uncertainty, adequately describes the characteristics of their spatial-temporal variations. This is demonstrated here in connection with an analysis of the relative ion composition of clustering chains of O2(+) and NO(+).
