A precision Attitude Control System (ACS) for the orientation and scanning of celestial and terrestrial targets with infrared instruments is described. Tuned rotor gyros were selected as the precision inertial references for the ACS. Tuned rotor gyros and their supporting electronics are extensively discussed. The complete mechanization of the ACS is described. Aspects of the digital programmer, digital integration, and important software considerations are highlighted.
