A new course, AST 310-Astrophysics Measurements, is presented as a model of a hands on course for astrophysics/astronomy majors and minors. The course, first offered in Spring semester 2009, gave students the opportunity to propose and design their own projects, use modern astrophysics measurement equipment, reduce their data and present their findings in oral or poster format. The level of professionalism of the final outcomes was remarkable given that most of the students enrolled had never had similar opportunities.
