The paper presents some results of alpha-component measurements made by the Prognoz satellite with a mass-energy analyzer under steady-state conditions in the solar wind during a two-month period in 1972. The energy range of the analyzer was from 0.1 to 4 keV for protons and from 0.4 to 16 keV for alpha particles. Analysis of a series of characteristic alpha-particle spectra shows that the main body of the velocity distribution is described well by a Maxwellian distribution. Histograms of alpha-particle/proton temperature and velocity ratios are constructed; the mean temperature ratio of 3.6 and the mean velocity ratio of 1.03 are found to be in satisfactory agreement with previously measured values. An expression is derived for the dependence of alpha-particle temperature on velocity.
