Small perturbations, especially those appearing in the orbital period, are investigated for some satellites in very high orbits. In particular the small balloon satellite 1963 30D is studied in detail. It is shown that the effect of neutral air drag is detectable and roughly measurable. In addition, other sources of acceleration are demonstrated. The effects of lunar and solar gravity and solar radiation pressure are examined and shown to be significant. Another important source of acceleration in the case of the high balloon satellites, after solar radiation pressure has been taken into account, is terrestrial radiation pressure. These perturbations are described for the satellite 1963 30D. Present address: Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. 20771, U.S.A.
