The measured values of the ratio of magnetic field strengths in active and quiet regions on the sun are shown to be dependent on the equivalent width of different Fe I lines. This dependence is similar to that obtained for magnetic variable stellar rotators. A possible explanation of this effect by a difference of chemical composition of quiet and active regions is proposed.
