A method for calculating N(h) profiles below the electron-density maximum in the F2-layer on the basis of satellite ionograms is proposed which is based on the use of the L-pseudoinversion. An algorithm of L-pseudosolution search is presented, and attention is given to results of calculations on the basis of satellites ionograms and a comparison with data from ground-based installations. Model profiles were also used to test the algorithm. The results confirm the feasibility of using satellite ionograms to calculate the N(h) profiles of the lower ionosphere.
