The perturbations of the undisturbed solar wind, caused by the Helios spacecraft, are summarized. The spacecraft will be charged by photon and particle interaction, and the resulting electric potential distribution around the spacecraft affects the low energy particle spectra to be measured. The following perturbation mechanisms must be taken into account for evaluation of the plasma data: (1) the photoelectron sheath in front of the sunlit side of the satellite, (2) the potential of the negative wake behind the satellite, (3) the distinction between potentials which are due to conducting and non-conducting surface elements of the spacecraft, and (4) the satellite's surface potential depending on capacitor effects. Some simplified models are proposed and discussed in order to overcome these complex problems in a mathematically convenient way. Particle spectra modified by disturbing model potentials are computed.
