Scientific paper

The paper reports the conclusions reached by a working group at the National Solar Observatory, concerned with the exchange of information obtained from solar and stellar observations in Antarctica and with the future possibilities for such observations. It was emphasized that a 2-m-class IR telescope installed at the South Pole and equipped with high-resolution spectrometers, narrow and broadband imaging, and polarimetric capabilities could play a unique role in helioseismology and in the development of stellar and planetary seismology.
