There is a close correlation between the variation of solar angular momentum about the centre of the solar system and the annual sunspot number. For the period 1900-1980 and for a time lag of ~ 2 yr, the correlation coefficient is as high as 0.81 at a significane lever far in excess of 99.9%. According to the theory of gyromagnetism, the motion of the sun around the centre of the solar system determines the solar dipole moment. It is inferred that the rotation in the solar must be very small.
