Variations of the solar acoustic mode frequencies with the activity cycle are inverted to obtain sound speed differences up to approximately 0.99R. The mode frequencies are obtained by applying spherical harmonic decomposition to full-disk solar images observed by SOHO/MDI from 1999 to 2005. It is found that during solar maximum the sound speed is slightly lower at the base of the convection zone. There is also indication of sound speed variations near the solar surface.
