The solar activity variation of nitric oxide density at 90 to 130 km for mid-latitude daytime condition was examined on the basis of presently known ion-neutral chemistry of odd nitrogens and laboratory measured reaction rates along with transport mechanisms due to eddy and molecular diffusions. It was shown that while nitric oxide increases by factors of 3 to 4 at lower heights in all the models, at higher heights the variation with solar activity is sensitive to the type of model adopted. It was also seen that all three selected models reproduce the observed electron densities fairly well, but none of the models are able to explain the observed of excited NO to excited oxygen ratio and its variation with solar activity.
