We examine a series of vector magnetograms of solar active regions (ARs) for a few selected events. Depending on availability, the vector magnetograms are obtained through open sources from either ground-based or space-borne observations, such as those from SOLIS, SP/Hinode, and HMI/SDO. For each event, a time-sequence of vector magnetograms of the same AR will be analyzed by a method of non-force-free magnetic field extrapolation. In particular, an approach to derive the relative magnetic helicity of an AR based on a homotopy formula for the magnetic vector potential will be developed. Hence the magnetic energy and other non-potentiality parameters, including the magnetic helicity, will be calculated based on the extrapolation results. Time-evolution of these quantities characterizing the energetics of the solar ARs will be shown. If data availability permitting, comparison of the magnetic energy and helicity calculations will be made for selected events with other model calculations, such as the Minimum Current Corona model.
