The advent of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) has led to many new challenges in the realm of system testing. An SOA commonly is described as a multitude of services that need not know of each other's underlying programs or platforms, yet work congruously together to perform a shared goal, that of the end user and/or product. Moreover, a fundamental idea of a SOA is that is allows for a heterogeneous and distributed environment. The HLA design is based on an SOA, both in the more common sense of offering services or composites of services as a front-end for external users, but also behind the scenes for the purposes of generating new science products internally. Only portions of the user interface front-end are functional at present, but they offer a unique challenge to performing quality control that will grow in complexity as more of the component services are developed.
