We present the optical and near-IR photometry and spectroscopy of the type Ia SN 2003cg from day -9 to day +386 from B maximum. SN 2003cg reached an apparent magnitude at maximum B_{max}=15.94 and had a post-maximum decline rate Δm_{15}(B)=1.17. The overall appearance was normal, both photometrically and spectroscopically. However, the extinction deduced in severals ways gives an exceptionally high E(B-V)˜1.15, with an unusual R_v˜2.0.
