The Electric Propulsion diagnostic Package (EPDP) and the Spacecraft Potential and Electric fields and Dust Experiment (SPEDE) are currently monitoring the Stationary Plasma Thruster (SPT) plume interaction effects on the SMART-1 spacecraft. The experiments are aimed to obtain information on the interaction of the electric propulsion system with the rest of the spacecraft subsystems. Data collected from these experiments will be available for design of new interplanetary spacecraft that employ electric propulsion. The diagnostics on-board any spacecraft using electric propulsion will only give punctual values. Therefore, it is important to develop models that permit to forecast the effects of the use of such thrusters in the whole spacecraft. The data collected in this flight experiment will be used not only to assess the impact of using electric propulsion on board satellites but furthermore to validate modelling tools which will be employed in a full characterisation of the impact of using this technology in space1 . This paper will describe the activities related to the analysis of the Smart-1 data carried out by the plasma working group created by ESA/ESTEC to assess the spacecraft-thruster interaction. Several mathematical models will be used in this task.
