Velocity spectra of the carbon stars in Carina, Leo I, Leo II, and the Fornax dwarf galaxy were obtained in January 1983 using spectrographs in the 4450-5350 A, 5165 A, and 5000-5900 A bands. The carbon star velocities were quantified either through comparison of the positions of the Swan bandheads on large scale plots of the spectra or with a cross-correlation scheme, which was questionable for considering carbon stars. An rms scatter of 20 km/sec was found in the angular velocity measurements of six carbon stars, while good velocity spectra were not available for the Leo I and Leo II dwarf galaxies. Mass calculations based on the velocities detected suggest that the Galaxy does not possess a heavy halo. The main mass of the Galaxy, out to a distance of 100 kpc of the center, is calculated to be within 0.8 of 2.6 x 10 to the 11th solar masses.
