A method is proposed for solving the problems associated with sky background on starfield plates. The method is based on a Bayesian estimation of the intensity at each point using the density histogram. A numerical model of such a histogram is presented. The method has been verified by using various astronomical images. It is found that, if the density interval is not too large, the approximation is always in good agreement with the data.
