The ground-state structure of the nucleus ^57Ni was studied at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory in the ^9Be(^57Ni,^56Ni+γ)X one-neutron knockout reaction. A 72 MeV/nucleon secondary beam of ^57Ni was produced by fragmentation of ^58Ni using the A1200 fragment separator at the NSCL. The S800 spectrograph was used to measure the longitudinal momentum distributions of the ^56Ni residue in coincidence with gamma rays from the excited residue. We will discuss orbital angular momentum assignments of the excited states of ^56Ni as determined from measured longitudinal momentum distributions. Spectroscopic factors for the ground state of ^57Ni, determined from measured cross sections to the excited and ground states of ^56Ni and calculated single-particle removal cross sections will also be presented.
