The nuclear de-excitation lines, positron-annihilation line and neutron-capture line in flares can reveal a great deal about accelerated ions -- their composition, spectrum, and angular distribution -- and about the density and composition of the solar atmosphere in which the ions are interacting. This great diagnostic power is coupled, however, with great complexity -- most of these parameters can simultaneously affect the brightness and Doppler profile of any given line. We have developed a fitting procedure that simultaneously varies the composition, spectrum and angular distribution of accelerated ions and the composition of the ambient atmosphere. It creates both model spectra and model time profiles for the 2.2 MeV neutron-capture line, using the modeling software developed at the Naval Research Laboratory by Murphy, Ramaty, Hua, and collaborators. The spectrum and 2.2 MeV time profile for a given flare are fit at the same time, minimizing the joint chi-square, to constrain all the flare parameters noted above. First results of this algorithm, constraining ion parameters in RHESSI gamma-ray flares, will be presented.
