Simulated populations of the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) in clusters of different age are obtained for different laws of mass loss on the AGB stage and for different initial chemical compositions. The results are compared with the observations of two clusters in the Magellanic Clouds. There are two classes of stars on the AGB: early-AGB stars and thermally pulsating stars. Position of stars of these two classes on the HR diagram differ by luminosity and effective temperatures. Theoretical numbers of M and C stars in the clusters are presented for different ages, mass loss laws and initial chemical compositions.
