If a microwave transmission antenna or a space-tenna is constructed as an array of small resonant radiators, the number of the element radiators should be enormous. The thermal control and heat dissipation may also be a serious problem because a microwave amplifier is probably attached to an element radiator in a pair. This paper proposes to reduce the number of the fed elements using parasitic elements. The study depends on the analysis of electromagnetic wave fields in consideration of the coupling between the elements. The total radiation pattern and antenna gain are strongly dependent on the arrangement of the fed and parasitic elements. At optimum, the antenna gain is improved by 3.5dB from the case the parasitic elements are removed. The impact to system characteristics is also analyzed.
