We demonstrate that lines of the silicon hydride molecule SiH make a significant contribution to the total line absorption in blue spectra of many cool, metal-poor stars and globular clusters. Individual SiH lines are identified for the first time in the high-quality Hinkle et al. spectrum of Arcturus, the nearby metal-poor K giant, and are seen in other cool stars with alpha-abundance enhancements. In such cases, their strength and number over 4100A - 4160A is sufficient to increase absorption in the broad-band Lick indexes of the CN molecule, which is then alpha-sensitive.This work is supported by grants from NASA/STScI Hubble Treasury Program GO-9455/9974/10094 and NASA Long-Term Space Astrophysics Program contract NAS5-02052.
