The energy of gamma-ray bursts, and a variety of evidence suggesting their linkage with blue stars and star formation, has led to the strong suggestion of their connection with deaths or end products of massive stars. Most of this evidence is limited, however, to gamma-ray bursts of the long variety (duration greater than 2 s). For this class, recent evidence more specifically suggests that they are associated with a supernova-like phenomenon. Here this evidence is discussed, and some of its consequences explored. Finally, a specific model for the link between the two is discussed.
