Research on the space plasma/spacecraft interaction is briefly reviewed focusing on the CHARGE 2 experiment for Cooperative High-Altitude Rocket Gun Experiment 2 (Neubert and Banks, 1992; Neubert et al., 1990) aimed at studying the sheath structure around the spacecraft. It is suggested that more sophisticated plasma diagnostics devices such as the REX receiver (Godard et al., 1991) or the quadripolar probe (Storey et al., 1969; Beghin et al., 1982) should be used to measure the electron density with an accuracy of 1-5 percent.
