A system of equations describing shell expansion in inhomogeneous gravitating media is obtained in the thin-layer approximation. The buildup process of extended stellar shells around elliptical galaxies initiated by active galactic nuclei is investigated on the basis of the numerical intergration of the derived equations. It is concluded that the blast-wave mechanism may lead to the formation of several shells in a galaxy in the case of recurrent activity of the galaxy nucleus.
