The SGARFACE (Short GAmma Ray Front Air Shower Experiment) aims at detecting short 0.1 - 100 microsecond bursts of gamma rays above 200 MeV using the Whipple Atmospheric Imaging Cherenkov Telescope. It will be equipped with a dedicated electronics system operated while TeV observations are made. The most important piece of electronics is a reprogrammable gate array (XILINX) based multi-time-scale discriminator which is under development at ISU. We report on the current status of the experiment which should be operational Fall 2002 giving unprecedented sensitivity for microsecond bursts of gamma rays.
