For the purpose of facilitating the study of auroral effects, the dependence of the vertical component of the geoelectric field (E-z) on wind speed, absolute humidity, and cloud cover is studied for the temperature range 0 to -27 C. Data obtained during the Sambo-76 experiment are examined, and it is found the E-z is affected by the temperature and wind speed at temperatures below approximately -14 C and at wind speeds above 10 m/s, possibly as a result of ice crystal formation in air. Meteorological conditions permitting the study of auroral effects without the E-z complications are indicated.
