Selection factors effect the photographic observation of meteors with ground-based telescopes are investigated analytically. A selection function is derived on the basis of telescope field-of-view and pointing geometry and used to correct the density distribution of the geocentric radiants over the apex elongation angle for the sporadic-meteor observations of the catalog of McCrosky and Posen (1961).
