New generation telescopes are putting higher demanding on an astronomical site. Based on the theory of imaging in a turbulent medium, this paper discusses the modern definition of seeing and the stratified structure of the turbulence as well as the strategy of site testing. In additions, the measurement of seeing in modern astronomical site testing is introduced briefly.
