An analysis is made of seasonal variations of the degree of F1-layer development and the F1 plasma frequency according to data from the Murmansk, Moscow, Gorky, and Kiev stations for 1980. It is shown that the degree of F1-layer development is a good indicator of the variability of the thermospheric gas composition. A proposed computational model for the F1-layer makes it possible to accurately describe annual variations of this parameter with allowance for variations of thermospheric conditions according to the MSIS model.
