We will present the preliminary analysis of a sample of 16 merger remnants and mergers in progress observed with Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) as part of a study regarding the environment of interacting galaxies. We are particularly interested in searching for young objects known as blue star-forming regions or blue blobs, formed during the interaction process in the intergalactic medium. These blue blobs may be the precursors of globular clusters, large stellar systems or dwarf galaxies. We compare the merger sample with other GALEX samples of interacting systems and with compact groups of galaxies where we have found blue blobs and tidal dwarf galaxies. The main goal is to establish whether these objects are long-lived or whether they are disrupted during the merger process.
