The results of a spectroscopic survey of continuum emission from giant HII regions in the galaxies NGC 300 and NGC 5457 (M 101) are presented.
In NGC 300, WR stars are detected in 2 out of 16 regions surveyed in NGC 5457 in 2 out of 6. The evidence comes from the presence of broad emission bands in the blue (λλ4600-4700) and red (λλ5600-5900) spectral regions, identified with different lines of NV, NIII, CIV and HeII observed in galactic WR stars. In the absence of clear detections, upper limits for the emission band strengths are given.
New observations of the known WR emission bands in the giant HII region NGC 604 and in the galaxy He2-10 are also reported.
