To search for gamma ray bursts, a one meter square, five centimeter thick plastic scintillation detector, having a sensitivity for gamma ray bursts exceeding 0.00000008 ergs/sq cm, has been successfully flown on balloon flights from Hyderabad, India, on March 31, 1977 and on April 13, 1978. A total of 12 hour accumulated data does not show any gamma ray burst event. This gives an upper limit of 1500 events per year for burst size of 0.00000008 ergs/sq cm which is more consistent with S exp-1 curve for size distribution, indicating a Galactic origin for gamma ray bursts.
