An IUE observational program, using the high resolution mode, with the aim to search for chromospheric indicators in A normal stars was started in 1982. The classical chromospheric indicators are core reversals in collisional dominated lines as C II (1335 Å), Si II (1308 Å) and Mg II (2800 Å) lines. The analysis of the sample of 16 stars observed (from A0 V to A8 IV) do not show any line core reversal on the UV high resolution spectra. The preliminary result that emerges with this small sample of A stars, supported by other results in the literature, is that chromospheres are probably absent in A type IV - V stars.
