In this poster we make an initial presentation of particle data from a winter 2008 sounding rocket compaign studying ionospheric outflow in the cusp region. The rocket was launched on January 18, 2008 at 0730 UT from the Andoya Rocket Range in Norway, reaching an apogee of 1467 km over the Eiscat Svalbard Radar. The payload instrumentation shows active and interesting dayside aurora over the course of the flight. In addition, ground observations characterized the aurora overhead and the ion upflows seen by Eiscat. Fortuitously, the Japanese auroral satellite REIMEI passed under the rocket at apogee. Collaborative efforts are in place among the rocket, satellite, and radar communities contributing data to support the Scifer 2 science objectives. The Scifer 2 campaign was designed as a joint case study, involving both ground and in situ observations, of the low altitude signatures of ionospheric outflow. In particular we wish to quantify for this event the relative importance of convective heating versus heating from soft precipitation. We are currently in the initial stages of analyzing the in situ particle data in order to quantify these observed outflows. This analysis requires quantitative corrections for spacecraft charging and plasma flows in order to properly analyze the thermal ion distributions.
