Topics discussed include beacon studies of total electron content in the ionosphere, disturbed electron content, and ionospheric scintillation and irregularities. Particular attention is given to seasonal variations of the columnar electron content of the ionosphere, studies of the plasmasphere/protonosphere by satellite radio beacons, F-region irregularity patches near the boundary of the equatorial irregularity belt, phase errors in radio astronomy interferometers due to ionospheric disturbances, and the use of radio beacons as diagnostic tools in the study of ionospheric modification events.
