Non-scientists find physical science a difficult subject, yet are intensely interested in what it says about the universe, from quanta to galaxies. It is possible to mix science with other areas, and to combine serious and light approaches, to present these ideas in popular and compelling ways. Illustrated with examples from my books [1,2], lectures, and TV appearances. 1. Empire of Light (National Academy Press, Washington, DC, 1998). 2. Universal Foam (Walker & Co., New York, 2000).
