Venus, Schroeter'S Effect

Scientific paper

The phase of Venus appears slightly concave when Sun-Earth-Venus
geometry indicates that it should be exactly half illuminated. This
phenomenon was first noticed by the German amateur astronomer Johann
Schroeter in 1793. Observations and a possible explanation of the effect
are presented.
