Visual intensity estimates for the belts and zones of Saturn during the 1943-1981 period are discussed in this paper. Spot activity in the atmosphere of Saturn may lead to short-term intensity changes and longer- term seasonal effects may arise by virtue of the periodic change in the solar altitude at a particular belt or zone. Thus, while the meteorology of the planet may well be governed by internal heating, it is apparent that infalling solar radiation has a considerable effect also. Seasonal colour changes are also evident from the BAA observations.
