A review of the development and most applications of satellite altimetry for orbit determinations during the last ten years is given. Observational principles, mathematical models and a variety of estimation methods for satellite altimetry are introduced and classified. Some estimation methods and suggestions for the cooperate research of TOPEX/POSEIDON are also included.
