Coronal plasma fills the magnetic flux tubes and thus visualises the topology of the magnetic field. Specific saddle structures correspond to magnetic singularities of X-type. Two-dimensional chromospheric saddles are close to the possible intersections of the separators with the chromosphere. The saddle-like structures visible in some soft X-ray solar images obtained by Yohkoh SXTarise in a quadrupolar magnetic configuration which contain a vertical singular null line in the center. SOHO EIT images of active region NOAA 8113 in Fe-wavebands reveal a 3D null point which appears in the corona due to emergence of a patch of parasitic polarity. It can be shown that this is the real 3D null point in which all three components of the magnetic field are zero. The saddle structures manifest the magnetic configurations of hyperbolic type. These configurations are assumed to be a necessary condition for magnetic field line reconnection and magnetic energy release. In spite of the fact that these configurations are visible very clear in the corona, no additional heating is observed inside the saddle structures. Moreover, interior parts of the saddles seem to be darker than the neighbouring loops. Modern observations are able to shed light on these processes.
