The authors have discovered the first example of an oxygen-rich
symbiotic star in the Large Magellanic Cloud. They show that it involves
an asymptotic branch K5 giant. If the unidentified emission bands at
6830, 7088 Å can be taken as evidence of a white dwarf, then the
hot component is likely to be accreting from the wind of the giant.
