The S-band Polarization All Sky Survey (S-PASS) is surveying the entire southern sky in polarization, at the frequency of 2.3 GHz. The aim is to carry out a full characterization of the synchrotron polarized emission for advancement of studies in the field of CMB cosmology and Galactic magnetism. WMAP results show that CMB polarization is severely contaminated by the synchrotron emission, and a careful determination of this astrophysical foreground is mandatory from successful CMB observations. The proposed survey will enable accurate cleaning of this contaminant, improving the limit with which the CMB can measure cosmic inflation parameters. S-PASS will provide an invaluable resource for magnetic field structure in the Galactic disk, halo, and their transition, giving us a first detailed look at the role of the magnetic field in these areas and at its evolution from the plane into the halo.
