Minor Planets: Meteorites, Meteorites: Origin

Planets with special characteristics similar to achondrites and ordinary chondrites have been selected among the main belt asteroids by using spectral parameter diagrams for meteorites. Such asteroids make up about one-third of the total number in this set. S-asteroid meteorite analogues are mainly concentrated among Apollo-Amor objects and in heliocentric distance interval 2.8 - 3.0 AU. The objects of this set are not statistically different in the color index which is controlled by surface mineral composition. Astrophysical data on S-asteroids support the 2/5(2.824 AU) hypothesis as the probable mechanism of matter transfer from the asteroid belt in the vicinity of the Earth's orbit.
