The long-period (463 days), highly eccentric (0.91), young system RX J0529.3+1210 was initially identified as a single-lined spectroscopic binary. Using high-resolution, infrared spectra, acquired with NIRSPEC on Keck II, we measured radial velocities for the secondary. We determine the mass ratio to be 0.97 +/- 0.07. Our results describe the difficulties in obtaining double-lined spectra of a binary with such high eccentricity; RX J0529.3+1210 is the most eccentric pre-main sequence double-lined system known to date. We speculate on the formation of this system and on the impact of such eccentricity for planet formation. This work is supported by NSF grant AST-0444017 and the NAU/NASA Space Grant program.
