We present preliminary results on the RR Lyrae variable stars identified in the variability survey conducted during the first generation Robotic Optical Transient Search Experiment (ROTSE-I). The survey covers all the sky north of declination -30 degrees. Problems in the identification of RR Lyrae variables will be discussed. The RR Lyrae stars in the ROTSE-I database include RR Lyrae stars of the Galactic thick disk and halo to distances of about 7 kiloparsecs from the Sun. These RR Lyrae stars thus occupy the intermediate position between those identified in the surveys of the Galactic bulge and those found in surveys of the outer halo. Results will be presented on the periods, amplitudes, and Oosterhoff properties of the RR Lyrae stars in the ROTSE-I fields reduced to date. Implications of the ROTSE-I survey for dual component models of the Galactic halo will be discussed.
