The papers deal with recent achievements in the fields of marine mineralogy, experimental petrology, geochemistry, extraterrestrial mineralogy, mineralogical aspects of ores, and environmental mineralogy. Specific topics include the composition of deep-sea rocks and marine sediments, the magnesium budget in the oceans, problems of iron gain and loss during experimental crystallization of lunar basalts at low pressures, principles and a technique for determining specific component activities in tholeiitic melts, sedimentary geochemistry, and the mineralogy of the terrestrial planets. Two major igneous events in the moon's history are discussed, research into the mineralogy of iron meteorites is reviewed, and results are reported for electron microscopy of four stony meteorites. Other contributions examine the uranium mineralization of two reef systems, the nature and range of hazardous mineral ducts in the environment, and the properties of asbestos minerals.
