An integral relation developed by Roxburgh (1978) has been used by
several authors to estimate the extent of overshooting from stellar
convection zones. Here it is shown that Roxburgh's relation rests on a
set of inconsistent approximations. It does not prove that there must be
overshooting and should not be used in stellar structure calculations.
